Lee Brewer, 6/28/2016 email to OHCA board
I spoke with our other Insurance agent today, Chris Siegelmann, about how our liability works. Soooo this is for
clarification to everyone. We are covering any facility we use (Methodist Church, Poricy Park, Good shepherd etc.) However, anyone who
is a member at our event like the block party, is not covered... Since they are members, they can not apply for coverage or sue anymore than a
homeowner can go after their own homeowner policy for a mishap on their home property. So the houses on Lyon are covered if they are not a
member.  Another example would be that if a child falls on the way to see Santa, and is part of a member-family, the child's injury costs are
on the families medical insurance coverage... and not covered on our liability policy. If the family says the church carpeting caused the
fall, then we protect the church.

However, members guests (like those folks who brought their grandparents, or friends) are covered, since they are not members.
Soooooo  officially in the next meeting, we need to define what constitutes a member (for example any dependent living in the household)
but excludes extended family parents or grandparents living at that address etc.  They can be covered guests (as they were in the block
party) but are also covered in our insurance. We had one family that attended as guests, and so they were also covered.

Lastly beer, wine, or other alcohol drinks -
Chris quickly said that was a serious-no-no. As background, this is a normal response. When we had our catering company... insurance covering
our serving of alcohol was very expensive. (at the time it was like $80K/yr) Our standard liability insurance allowed us to serve the
champagne toast... but that was all. (It was 12K/yr). Soooo the takeaway - we can look the other way for anyone bringing their own drinks... but
then their auto or homeowner is the coverage point... not us.

Insurance is always sticky, so I hope we are all on the same page on this. best regards and thanks again for a great block party, Lee

ZUMBA class on a driveway?

Rebecca wrote: At the block party someone approached me with a great idea. She wanted to offer a Zumba in the driveway class to OHCA members. I am not sure if she expected compensation ( I don't think so) or just wanted to do for fun but I wanted to present to you first.  This might be something nice and different to offer to members.

Lee Brewer's evaluation of insurance implications of a Zumba class: this possible event is a typical example and here is what the OHCA insurance company says. Our members are not covered on another's property, even though it is an Oak Hill Community Association Event. However any guests or non-members are totally covered by our insurance. In the case of an injury (we haven't had any that I am aware of ever) our members needs the protection from their own personal insurance. In my case I would use my medical insurance. For what it is worth, I have seen other Zumba stuff that Maria did for the Bunco ladies, and my wife told me that it was really a lot of fun for everyone that did it. Maria is quite talented. best regards, Lee
